How closedonsunday.me handles the photo you upload to the Closed on Sunday generator: what we collect, who processes it, how long we keep it and how to delete it.
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Closed on Sunday turns one photo into a short music video. To do that we have to handle your photo, which is personal, so we want to be clear about exactly what happens to it. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, who else sees it and how you stay in control. It works together with our Terms of Service and Refund Policy.
At a glance
- We only collect what we need to make your video, keep your account and take payments.
- Your photo and your videos are private to your account. We never post them, share them or show them to other users.
- We never sell your data and never use your photo or videos to train AI models.
- We do not accept photos of real children. If one reaches us, it is deleted.
- You can have your photo, your videos or your whole account deleted at any time. We confirm within 2 business days.
What we collect
| Data | What it includes | Why we need it |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address, name and profile picture if you sign in with Google, a hashed password if you sign up with email | To log you in and keep your videos and credits in one place |
| The photo you upload | The single portrait of the person, pet or character who stands still | To make your video |
| Generated content | The video made from your photo, and the choir scene you picked | To show it in My Videos so you can download it again |
| Credits and purchases | Which credit pack you bought, when, and how credits were used | To keep your balance correct and handle refunds |
| Technical data | IP address, browser type, device type and basic request logs | To keep the service secure and stop abuse such as mass sign-ups |
We do not collect your card number — it is entered on our payment provider's own checkout page and never reaches our servers. We do not collect your contacts, your location beyond what your IP address suggests, or anything from your photo library other than the one photo you choose to upload.
How your photo is handled
Because your photo is the most personal thing you give us, here is its full journey:
- Upload. Your photo is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), scaled down in your browser, and stored in private object storage.
- Screening. Uploads are not automatically screened before a render starts. Content that breaks our rules is removed when it is reported to us, and accounts that break the rules are closed — see the acceptable use rules.
- Render. Your photo is sent to our AI video provider together with a fixed reference still of the choir scene you chose. The finished video is saved to your account.
- Storage. Your photo and videos are stored privately. They are reachable only through links that are not listed on any public page and are excluded from search engines, and only your account can list them.
- Deletion. They stay until you ask us to delete them or close your account. See Your choices.
We do not look at your photo or your videos unless you ask us to — for example when you report a broken video — or when we have to check a report of abuse.
How we use your data
- To make your video and show it in My Videos.
- To keep your credit balance and purchase history, and to process refunds.
- To prevent fraud and abuse, such as extra accounts created to farm credits.
- To answer you when you contact us.
- To keep the service running and secure, through aggregate request logs.
What we never do: sell your data, rent it to advertisers, use your photo or videos to train AI models, or use them in our own marketing. The example videos on this site were not made from user uploads.
Who processes your data
Making a video takes a few specialist services. Each one receives only what it needs for its task and is bound by its own privacy and security terms.
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts the site, the database and the file storage | Your photo and videos, and basic request data |
| Our AI video provider | Generates the video from your photo and the choir scene | Your photo and the choir reference still |
| Dodo Payments | Processes payments as the merchant of record, including tax | Your payment details and billing address, entered on its checkout page |
| Google Sign-In | Lets you log in with Google, if you choose to | Your Google name, email address and profile picture |
The video provider may also host the file briefly while it processes the render. If we add a provider that receives your photo, we will name it here before it goes live.
How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Your photo and videos | Until you ask us to delete them or close your account |
| Account data | Until you close your account |
| Purchase records | As long as tax and accounting law requires, usually several years |
| Technical and security logs | A limited period, then deleted or anonymised |
Security
- Every connection to the site is encrypted with HTTPS.
- Passwords are stored only as a salted scrypt hash, never in plain text.
- Card details are entered on our payment provider's checkout page and never reach our servers.
- Provider keys are stored as encrypted secrets, and only the small team that runs the service can reach production systems.
No online service can promise perfect security, but if a breach ever affected your personal data, we would tell you without undue delay.
Your choices
You are in control of your data. Email hello@closedonsunday.me from the address on your account, with the subject Privacy, to:
- delete a specific video, all of your videos, or your whole account;
- get a copy of the data we hold about you;
- correct your account details;
- object to any use of your data or ask us to limit it.
We confirm every request within 2 business days and complete it as quickly as we can. Deleting your account also removes your unused credits, so use or refund them first. Depending on where you live, data protection laws such as the GDPR or CCPA give you these rights, and you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Closed on Sunday is for adults. You must be at least 18 to create an account, and we do not accept photos of real children: uploads that clearly show a real child are removed and the account may be closed. Drawn or animated child characters are not affected. If you believe a child's photo has reached us, contact us and we will delete it immediately.
International users
We serve users worldwide, and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer personal data across borders, we rely on our providers' standard safeguards for those transfers.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes, such as a new provider that receives your photo, will also be announced on the site before they take effect.
Questions
Closed on Sunday is run by a small, independent team. If anything on this page is unclear, email hello@closedonsunday.me and a real person will answer within 2 business days.
